Homemade Facial Mask Recipes for Dark Spots and Blemishes
Blemishes and dark spots can show up on women with all types of skin, and you may begin to notice them before you are 30. Overexposure to the sun is most often responsible for the appearance of dark spots and uneven skin tone. Sun damage to the skin could have happened years ago, and can take a while to notice. Light complexion women may be more susceptible to damage from UV rays, but blemishes can plague everyone.
Thankfully, there are some facial masks you can make at home with natural ingredients that can lighten dark spots and even skin tones. While these recipes may not be as effective as some commercial products, you can make them with little out of pocket expenses. They do work but may take a few more applications than an expensive mask or product you have to purchase. Most of these masks will need to be applied 2 or 3 times a week for at least a month to get the best result. These facial mask recipes will contain natural citric acids that may burn or sting sensitive skin. Try a small spot test and if you notice a burning or stinging sensations wash it off and avoid that recipe.
So here are a few homemade facial masks recipes to lighten and brighten your complexion and hopefully get rid of dark spots.
Honey and Papaya Facial Mask
This honey and papaya mask is full of brightening enzymes and antioxidants that can reduce dark spots and even out skin tone. Peel one ripe papaya, and place it with 2 tbsp. of honey in a blender. Blend this until it is pureed, then apply to clean, dry skin. You can leave the facial mask on for about twenty minutes, use lukewarm water to remove.
Citrus and Oatmeal Mask
Natural citric acids can still lighten skin tone and spots without the harshness of some commercial products. To create this mask you’ll need:
- ¼ Cup Oatmeal
- 2 tbsp. lemon Juice
- 2 tbsp grapefruit juice
- 2 tbsp lime juice
Mix all the ingredients in a small bowl, stirring until the oatmeal becomes very moist. Apply this to clean dry skin, avoiding the areas around the eyes and mouth. Only leave this mask on for 10 minutes then remove with warm water.
Homemade Pineapple Facial Mask
Another citric mask that is great for lightening tone, sun spots and cleansing skin pores. Ingredients are:
- ½ Cup water
- ½ cup orange juice
- ¼ cup crushed pineapple
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 packet plain gelatin.
Pineapple, orange juice and lemon, sounds like a great drink, but these ingredients also make an excellent facial mask. Mix all the ingredients in small pot and stir over medium heat until everything is dissolved. Refrigerate the mixture until cool. Apply a thin layer of this mask to clean dry skin, avoiding the lips and the areas around the eyes. This facial mask may take up to 20 minutes to dry. Remove by gently peeling the mask away from the skin, beginning with the outside edges.
